LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. LED are one of the inventions that lasts for long time and do not break easily.

They produce different colours and they are efficient enough to convert energy into light but not heat.

LED Colours

LED has two or three LEDs inside and of different colours.

In white LEDs, some have single colour LED inside. Usually it is blue, combined with phosphor. Phosphor helps to convert that single colour to white.

LED are coloured indicator lights on many electronic devices. The colour affects the amount of electricity used by LED.

LED can be used to make bright signs used for advertising in business, brake lights in new cars, used in TVs, light bulbs for home.

White coloured LEDs brighter enough to illuminate rooms are one of the expensive ones compared to light bulbs. They last longer and burn less electricity.

LED vs LCD

LEDs are different than LCD. Most of them get confuse between LED with LCD.

LCD stands for “LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY“. Technically, LED and LCD TV are liquid crystal display.

In LCD fluorescent lights are used and LEDs use light emitting diodes.

LED has captured the market and now a days you won’t find LCD in the market. Due to high power requirement, LED required external interface circuit. LED has a wide viewing angle. The viewing angle is 150 degree. LEDs have many advantages like low energy consumption, longer life time, improved physical robustness, smaller size and faster switching.

LED are used in applications as diverse as aviation lighting, automotive headlamps, advertising, general lighting, traffic signals, camera flashes, lighted wallpaper and medical devices.

LED is a p-n junction diode that emits light when activated.

When a suitable voltage is applied to leads, electrons are able to recombine with electron holes with in the device ,releasing energy in the form of photons.

LEDs emit light in the specific direction, reducing the need for the reflectors and diffuse that can trap light and lastly LEDs are made with epoxy lenses, not glass and they are much more resistant to breakage.
